Shanghai Dian Ji University is geared to the need of modern manufacturing industries and related service industries, taking a foothold in Shanghai, reaching out to the Yangtze River Delta, and serving the nation. It is a full-time university of applied technology, with core specialties in engineering and coordinated development of other specialties, such as science, arts, economics, and administration. Propped by information technology, the school will adhere to its education mode characterized by the integration of production, teaching and research in order to train students to become high-level professional of applied technology, capable of practical operation and innovation and competent in international cooperation and communication.
Shanghai Dian Ji University has two campuses, one in Minhang District and the other in Yangpu, and a High-Tech Industrial Park, with a total area of 534 acres. There are 898 staff members, including 484 professional teachers, 33 professors and 136 associate professors. In addition, experts and scholars from home and abroad, including members of the Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering, are invited as part-time professors and visiting professors. The teaching schools subordinate to the university are School of Electrical Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electrical Information, School of Economics and Management, School of Foreign Languages, School of Arts and Science, School of International Education, Department of Automotive Engineering and School of Advanced Vocational Technology. In addition, Industrial Training Center and Physical Education Center are in charge of experiments and practical training, physical education respectively. School of Continuing Education and Shanghai Li Bin College for Electric Technicians are in charge of adult degree education and non-degree training. Shanghai Dian Ji University has a key discipline of Shanghai(i.e. Mechanical Manufacture and Automation), a key discipline of Shanghai Education Commission(i.e. Power Electronics& Electrical Drive),three projects of Shanghai Undergraduate Education Highland, 20 undergraduate degree specialties, 38 diploma specialties and 5 Sino-foreign cooperative programs, among which there are 1 high-quality specialty of national polytechnics and secondary colleges, 2 high-quality specialties of Ministry of Education and 9 high-quality specialties of Shanghai. Up till now, there are 1,0775 full-time degree and diploma students at school.
Shanghai Dian Ji University attaches great importance to learning and borrowing advanced foreign educational ideology and schooling experience and actively promotes international cooperative education. Since the year of 2000, Shanghai Dian Ji University has started 5 cooperative programs with Canada, Australia, Germany, etc. and established sound partnerships with nearly 20 institutions of higher learning in US, Britain, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Japan, Spain, etc..In the past 6 years, Shanghai Dian Ji University has selected and sent nearly 40 teachers to different countries for long-term specialized training in order to improve their foreign language capability and international communication capability. In accordance with the tendency of educational globalization, her school of foreign languages has set up several special languages such as English, German, French, Spanish. In addition, Shanghai Dian Ji University has also recruited Japanese and Korean teachers, thus forming a team of multi-lingual faculty.
